Lady Gaga has vowed to continue her fight for the LGBTQ+ community and other marginalized groups after the 2024 presidential election, which she described as “devastating” for many.
In an Elle interview conducted days after Donald Trump’s election as the 45th president of the United States, the 38-year-old singer reflected on the outcome and her dedication to advocacy.
Gaga expressed compassion for those affected by the results.
“I have so much love for so many people who are afraid today. I’m incredibly grateful for my blessings, but I understand how devastating this election was for others,” she declared.
The Poker Face star, who endorsed Kamala Harris, emphasized the importance of community.
“This reminds me how much we need each other. Supporting each other is vital. We’re not going down without a fight.”
Renewed advocacy and grassroots action
Gaga outlined her plans to remain a vocal advocate, pledging to use her platform to support grassroots movements.
“It’s about reaching out, being available, and recognizing that my challenges are different from those faced by others,” she explained. She also stressed the value of public advocacy.
“What you say from a big microphone can be just as powerful as private conversations. Who you are publicly should match who you are when no one’s watching.”
The Joker: Folie à Deux actress has consistently merged her artistry with activism. In 2021, she performed at President Joe Biden’s inauguration, a moment she called a career highlight. In 2023, she joined Kamala Harris at a rally in Pittsburgh, delivering a moving speech about women’s evolving role in shaping America.
Beyond her support for LGBTQ+ rights, Gaga co-founded the Born This Way Foundation with her mother and advocates for numerous causes, including women’s rights, youth empowerment, and mental health. She has worked with organizations such as Advocates for Youth, the Alzheimer’s Association, and Artists for Peace and Justice.
Her activism dates back years, including a 2017 campaign with Biden against violence toward women. In the PSA, she declared, “No man has the right to raise a hand against a woman except in self-defense. Period.”
As Gaga prepares to release her seventh studio album, Mayhem, on March 7, she remains committed to fighting for change.
“We will stick together,” she said.
“It will be hard, but I want everyone to know they are deeply loved and never invisible.”
