The controversies surrounding Gervonta Davis are significant both professionally and personally. However, one incident in particular has stood out with regards to his boxing career, and that is his promotional split with Floyd Mayweather‘s Mayweather Promotions.
Gervonta Davis has amassed a wealth of experience that could be the envy of many talented boxers who continue to wait for an opportunity to catapult them to the top. However, his career did not take off until he joined Mayweather’s promotion, of which he is no longer a part.
Why did Gervonta Davis leave Mayweather Promotions?
Gervonta Davis left ‘Money Team’ in May 2022, prior to his fight with Rolando Romero. He made the announcement via the ‘Last Stand’ podcast, arguing that he should be the one to manage his career and not anyone else.
Davis joined Floyd Mayweather’s company in 2015 and they helped guide him to a 26-0 record, but at 28 he was ready to move on and manage his own career.
Gervonta and Floyd: no hard feelings
The split between the two came before Davis’ fight against Roland Romero last year. Although the split raised many questions, Tank was unfazed by it and let the estrangement become public knowledge.
The split came as a shock, so naturally a lot of rumors started spreading trying to explain it. Today, however, it seems clear that those differences are behind them and the two stars have made peace.
Davis doesn’t rule out working with Mayweather again
Gervonta Davis is also not ruling out the possibility of working with Mayweather Promotions again. Although Davis is currently involved with Al Haymon, he plans to follow in Mayweather Jr.’s footsteps and make an incredible amount of money in boxing by promoting himself.
