After the departure of Mike McCarthy as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, the team is working to fill the position for the 2025 season and for now, the name of Deion Sanders is the one that stands out.
Former NFL coach Rex Ryan spoke on ESPN, and dropped another name that might sound interesting for the coaching job with the America’s Team, however, he did not rule out that the arrival of “Prime Time” in Dallas sounds so far-fetched.

“I’d love for Deion to get the job here. Obviously he’d have to bring in assistant coaches with NFL experience and change the guys he has on his current staff. He’s one of the best players in the history of our game, so they’ll have that natural respect,” Ryan said.
Ryan’s ideal candidate for the Cowboys
The former head coach of the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills suggested Anthony Lynn as a coach with the potential to lead the Cowboys.
Lynn worked alongside Ryan as the Jets’ running backs coach from 2009 to 2012, and became an assistant coach in 2013. He then followed Ryan to the Bills in 2015, before being hired as head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers in 2017, with whom he had a 33-31 record.
“Watch out for Anthony Lynn, he’s a much better football coach than a lot of people think,” Ryan said. “He did a really good job with the Chargers and I think people forget that he has a winning record as head coach with Los Angeles. I’m just telling you that Jerry Jones (Cowboys owner) will be comfortable with him.”
“Anthony would know what he’s getting into and he’s a great leader, he’s an exceptional coach. He was with me for several years. I think he’s one of the best coaches in the NFL,” Ryan added.
Lynn is currently the running backs coach for the Washington Commanders, but is an experienced head coach who could be an intriguing candidate for the Cowboys.
He spent the 2005 and 2006 season in Dallas as a running backs coach, so he has knowledge of how the organization works and the pressure of being in charge of one of the most popular teams in the NFL, and one of the most important franchises in the world of sports.
