The Monaco Grand Prix is considered as one of the most exciting races of the season. There have been just a few drivers who have managed to dominate in this unique circuit, where Max Verstappen earned pole position for the first time this year.
No Formula 1 driver has ever managed to secure more Monaco GP victories than Ayrton Senna, who has celebrated success in this circuit as many as six times in 10 races.
Regarding the remaining four races, in the first one, he would likely have won if it hadn’t been halted due to rain. On his second attempt, he secured the pole position but encountered an engine failure. In his third try, he finished on the podium.
The fourth race was a memorable day in 1988 when we witnessed Senna’s vulnerability. Despite claiming pole position by a significant 1.2 seconds ahead of his McLaren teammate Alain Prost, he was leading the race by nearly a minute when he crashed at Portier.
Had it not been for that crash, Senna would have astonishingly won the race seven times consecutively.
The legendary F1 driver is followed by Michael Schumacher in terms of Monaco GP wins, as the German won five races in that circuit.
In 1994, during his first championship-winning year, he secured a commanding triumph for the Benetton team, marking his inaugural Monaco victory.
Notably, this race took place immediately after the tragic passing of the legendary Monaco expert, Senna.
However, three years later, when he was representing Ferrari and donning their iconic red livery, he demonstrated his exceptional skill in interpreting treacherous track conditions, ultimately claiming another authoritative victory in the principality.
Graham Hill also has five victories in Monaco, while Alain Prost has four successes followed by Nico Rosberg, Lewis Hamilton, Jackie Stewart and Stirling Moss, who recorded three wins apiece.
