Bianca Censori, the controversial wife of rapper Kanye West, once again caught the headlines by making a provocative appearance at the 67th Grammy Awards, but how could it land her in trouble with the law?
The ceremony was held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles and the 30-year-old accompanied her husband, who was nominated for two awards that evening, in a very exposing outfit.
While West opted for a modest all-black ensemble featuring a t-shirt, jeans, sneakers, and dark sunglasses, Censori drew significant attention with her daring attire that many will argue is flatly inappropriate.
Upon arriving on the red carpet, the Australian removed her black, fluffy coat to reveal a mesh, skin-tight, see-through slip dress, with her hair styled back, leaving little to the imagination and exposing her to the risk of legal action.
And the court of public opinion has already spoken, with countless people heading to social media to express their views on the risque ensemble which seemed to bomb with the general public.
One user on X.com, formerly known as Twitter, commented, “kanye and that lady should be arrested for that stunt on the red carpet…… #GRAMMYs.”
Another noted, “Every single time I have seen Kanye’s wife naked was against my will.”
And a third questioned, “Kanye’s wife is fully naked…. does this event not have a dress code…? #GRAMMYs.”
Could Censori go to jail?
Under California Penal Code 314(1), indecent exposure is defined as “when a person exposes his or her naked body or genitals in front of anyone who could be annoyed or offended by it.” For an act to be considered a crime, it must be “willful and lewd.”
To be found guilty of indecent exposure, the penal code specifies that a person must, intentionally expose their genitals or naked body; do so in front of someone who might be offended or annoyed; intend to direct attention to themselves or aim to sexually gratify themselves; or offend someone else during the act.
A first-time offender could face a misdemeanor sentence of up to six months in county jail and/or a fine of up to $1000. A second offense would be treated as a felony, potentially leading to state prison time and mandatory registration as a sex offender for a minimum of 10 years.
Some could argue that Censori‘s see-through outfit on the red carpet fits this description, although no action has yet been taken against the Australian model.
As of now, neither West nor his wife have publicly addressed the controversy surrounding her Grammy Awards appearance. It remains to be seen whether any legal actions will be pursued.
