It appears that the doors has been opened for a reconciliation between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Premier Boxing Champions (PBC), after last week’s announcement that the working relationship had been severed.
According to Sports Illustrated, talks have resumed between promoter Al Haymon and the undisputed 168-pound champion, and Canelo Alvarez is now set to face fellow Mexican Jaime Munguia on May 4 in Las Vegas.
The fight against Jermall Charlo would then take place in September, as it is already a tradition for Álvarez to fight close to September 15, when Mexico’s Independence Day is celebrated.
Mediotiempo indicates that so far there is nothing signed between both parties, and that the possibility of a fight against Jaime Munguía in May is surprising, since Canelo had long refused to fight another Mexican.
Last year, Canelo had reached an agreement with PBC for three fights, of which only one has been made, last September when he defeated Jermell Charlo.

What caused the issues between Alvarez and PBC
But the disagreement on who would be the next opponent of the tapatío is what caused the working relationship to end last week, still missing those two fights. However, with this new information it seems that they will work together again.
According to Récord, PBC wants the two fights to be PPVs on Amazon Prime, with whom they have a production agreement. The downside of this situation is that Munguía has 12 consecutive fights with DAZN, who also has interest in broadcasting the fight.

Although many fans want to see Canelo Alvarez face David Benavidez in the ring, besides the fact that ‘Red Flag’ is the mandatory challenger at 168 pounds, it seems that will not be possible in 2024 if the Mexican and PBC finalize the deal for the fights against Munguía and Charlo.
