What better scenario than Super Bowl Sunday to announce a new measure. That’s what US President Donald Trump did. The monetary measures were announced during the trip aboard Air Force One to attend the Super Bowl final in New Orleans, between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.
“It’s very simple. If they charge us, we charge them,” Trump said. The fact is that he announced the imposition of 25% tariffs on imports of aluminum and steel from this Monday. That is, from now on.
“Any steel that comes in will have to have a 25% tariff. Also aluminum. 25% for both,” the US president warned
And he did not blink when announcing it, since the new levies on imported products will apply “almost immediately”, from this Monday, and will affect “all countries”.
Trump’s monetary policy
The Trump administration has started off strong. On February 1, the president announced a 10% increase in tariffs on products imported from China and a 25% increase for those coming from Canada and Mexico. However, the latter two cases have been put on hold for at least a month.
