When watching the Marvel movies, something that is quite shocking to see is that the actor who plays ‘The Incredible Hulk’ is not the same in the first film as when he appears in the other films.
The star of the first chapter of the green character’s story was Edward Norton, who stepped into the shoes of Bruce Banner in 2008, when the MCU had just begun.
But, there was a conflict with Norton when he was promised a rewrite of Zak Penn‘s script, which was changed before filming began. However, those altered scenes were removed in post-production.
This upset the actor, who wanted a more focused look at the Hulk’s personal traumas, but Marvel wanted something else.
As a result, Norton left the franchise badly and the studio was left without a Hulk until Mark Ruffalo took over the role in 2012, appearing in ‘The Avengers’.
Although it happened many years ago, there was a lot of tension at the time in the statements released by both parties.

Before ‘The Avengers’ began, Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige said in a statement that Norton didn’t leave for financial issues and that it was because of chemistry.
“The decision is definitely not one based on monetary factors, but instead rooted in the need for an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members,” he said.
“‘The Avengers’ demands players who thrive working as part of an ensemble, as evidenced by Robert, Chris H, Chris E, Sam, Scarlett, and all of our talented casts.
“We are looking to announce a name actor who fulfils these requirements, and is passionate about the iconic role in the coming weeks.”
The actor didn’t take kindly to the comments, and his agent released a counter-statement.
“Counter to what Kevin implies here, Edward was looking forward to the opportunity to work with Joss and the other actors in ‘The Avengers’ cast, many of whom are personal friends of his,” that statement said.
“Feige‘s statement is unprofessional, disingenuous and clearly defamatory.
“Mr Norton‘s talent, tireless work ethic and professional integrity deserve more respect, and so do Marvel’s fans.”
It’s clear, then, that the relationship between the actor and the studio ended badly.
