Ash Barty will start her quest for success at home grand slam under the bright lights of Rod Laver Arena on Monday night, the women’s world No.1 and top seed opening the first prime-time session of Australian Open 2020.

MORE: Day 1 schedule of play

Barty will play Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko before reigning and seven-time AO champion Novak Djokovic opens his campaign against dangerous German Jan-Lennard Struff.

Defending women’s champion Naomi Osaka opens proceedings at RLA in the day session, the third seed facing Marie Bouzkova of the Czech Republic in the first match.

Serena Williams, looking to equal Margaret Court’s record of 24 major singles titles this fortnight in Melbourne, plays the second day session match against Russian Anastasia Potapova.

Roger Federer, the third seed in the men’s draw, faces American Steve Johnson in the final day session match at RLA.

Men’s 13th seed Denis Shapovalov and 2019 women’s finalist Petra Kvitova open the day session at Margaret Court Arena before the highly-anticipated rematch between American veteran Venus Williams and 15-year-old compatriot Coco Gauff. The teenager stunned the 39-year-old seven-time major singles winner in the opening round at Wimbledon last year.

AO2019 semifinalist Stefanos Tsitsipas and American 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens headline the night session at MCA.

At Melbourne Arena, men’s eighth seed Matteo Berrettini, AO2018 champion Caroline Wozniacki, men’s 18th seed Grigor Dimitrov and Australia’s Sam Stosur will be in action on Monday.
