On Monday, Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, attended a solemn Holocaust Memorial Day service in London, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau during World War II.
For the occasion, Middleton wore a five-strand faux pearl necklace, which she debuted at the event. The vintage piece, sourced from Susan Caplan Jewelry, dates back to the 1980s and features pearls of different sizes, along with an embellished Swarovski crystal clasp.
In an Instagram post, Susan Caplan shared the significance of the necklace, expressing her honor that the Princess of Wales chose it for such a meaningful occasion.
“Today marks 80 years since the Holocaust, and as a Jewish-owned brand, we are honored that the Princess of Wales chose to wear our necklace for today’s memorial to commemorate Holocaust Remembrance Day,” Caplan wrote.
The choice of the necklace resonated deeply with Middleton’s followers.
“Congratulations, this is so special,” one fan commented.
“So proud and so incredibly emotional seeing this,” were the thoughts of another.
Along with the necklace, Middleton wore the Bahrain pearl drop earrings, passed down to her from Queen Elizabeth II. Pearls have historically been used by the royal family as a symbol of mourning, a tradition dating back to Queen Victoria’s use of pearls after the death of her husband, Prince Albert, in 1861.
In her all-black ensemble, Middleton paired the necklace with a Catherine Walker coat, Roland Mouret trousers, Russell & Bromley pumps, and a Chanel mini flap bag.

During the candlelight service, Middleton and her husband, Prince William, met with Holocaust survivors. The Princess also had an emotional reunion with a couple she had previously photographed in 2020.
Middleton is in remission
Earlier this month, Middleton shared a personal milestone with her followers, revealing that she is now in remission after completing cancer treatment four months ago. Posting a photo from a recent visit to The Royal Marsden hospital, where she received treatment, Middleton expressed her gratitude.
“I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to The Royal Marsden for looking after me so well during the past year.”
“It is a relief to now be in remission, and I remain focused on recovery. As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal.”
