Zuckerberg, after the sanctions he has suffered from the European Union, announced that he was eliminating his news verification program, which had been branded by US President Donald Trump and his followers as “woke leftist censorship”. He also eliminated the end of its equity, diversity and inclusion programs, and has now decided to change the moderation rules to unprotect the LGTBI community, one of the most attacked on social networks. In this sense, it was expressed in the latest modification of Meta’s community standards document on hate speech. “We do allow accusations of mental illness or abnormality when based on gender or sexual orientation, given the political and religious discourse about transgenderism and homosexuality,” the new wording reads, which also tolerates “the usual non-serious use” of words such as “weird.” Meta justifies that “sometimes” its users use expressions that “incite exclusion or use insulting language in the context of debate on political and religious issues, such as when dealing with the rights of transgender people, immigration or homosexuality. Our policies are designed to accommodate this type of speech,” it explains.
This policy shift was explained in a video statement. “We are going to simplify our content policies and remove a lot of restrictions on issues such as immigration and gender that are not in line with mainstream discourse,” he said. “What started as a movement to be more inclusive has increasingly been used to silence opinions and leave out people with different ideas, and this has gone too far,” Zuckerberg continued.
