JK Rowling has taken advantage of the executive order signed by Donald Trump, which prevents trans athletes from participating in women’s competitions, to give her opinion on the subject on Twitter, something that has been very controversial.
“Congratulations to every single leftist who has been campaigning to destroy the rights of women and girls. Without you, there would be no pictures like this,” one post read, before going on to dedicate a full statement to it.
JK Rowling: “Gender ideology has undermined freedom of expression”
“This phrase of ‘why do you care about a small fraction of the population?’ is, and always was, absolutely ridiculous,” she began by writing, before going on to explain the reasons why she says this, attacking what is known as “gender ideology.”
“Gender ideology has undermined freedom of expression, scientific truth, gay rights and the safety, privacy and dignity of women and girls. It has also caused irreparable physical harm to vulnerable children,” she continued.
“Nobody voted for the law, the vast majority of people don’t agree with it, but it has been imposed from above by politicians, health bodies, academics, sections of the media, celebrities and even the police,” he said.
Pointing directly at those who are part of it, trying to defend herself from the criticism she has received: “Its activists have threatened and exercised violence against those who have dared to oppose it. People have been defamed and discriminated against for questioning it. Jobs have been lost and lives have been ruined, all for the crime of knowing that sex is real and important.”
“The loudest voices throughout this fiasco have been those of people who have shielded themselves from the consequences by their wealth and/or status. They are not likely to find themselves locked in a cell with a 6ft 4in rapist who has decided that his name is now Dolores. They do not need state-funded rape crisis centres, nor do they frequent high street changing rooms,” she says.
He accuses the left of “mocking the needs of women and girls”
“Men, both those who identify as trans and those who do not, are the ones who have benefited most from gender identity ideology. Some have been rewarded for their fondness for cross-dressing with access to all the spaces that were previously reserved for women. Others have used their new victim status as an excuse to threaten, assault and harass women,” she argues.
“Leftists who do not identify as trans have found a magnificent platform from which to display their own impeccably progressive credentials, mocking and disdainfully dismissing the needs of women and girls, all the while patting themselves on the back for giving up rights that are not theirs,” she said.
To indicate who the real victims of this problem are: “The real victims of this chaos have been women and children, especially the most vulnerable, homosexuals who have resisted the movement and paid a terrible price, and ordinary people working in environments where a misplaced pronoun could get you vilified or constructively dismissed.”
“Don’t tell me this is about a small minority. This movement has impacted society in disastrous ways and if you had any common sense you would be quietly erasing all traces of activist mantras, ad hominem attacks, false equivalences and circular arguments from your X feeds, because the day is fast approaching when you will want to pretend that you always realised the madness and never believed it for a second,” he said.
