By now, everyone or almost everyone knows that Super Bowl LIX will be played between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. The former will be looking to make history in the NFL, as no team has ever won three consecutive titles, something that the Missouri franchise is aiming for. On the sporting front, the duel will be extremely attractive.
If the Super Bowl has anything going for it, it is that it is the event that best knows how to combine its main course with a series of tasty and attractive side dishes. In addition to the halftime musical performance, the numerous breaks allowed in an American soccer game allow for a large number of commercials. And, honestly, anyone who has been able to follow a Super Bowl on American television – in Spain thanks to Game Pass – knows that these commercials even enhance the experience because they are entertaining and fun. It is not cheap to advertise in such a showcase, as the 30-second slot costs $8 million this year, compared to $7 million last year. Large brands can afford it, but the exposure is worth it.
The Super Bowl is expected to attract more than 120 million viewers for its broadcast on Fox and Tubi, making it the most-watched television event of the year. All of this makes creatives want to show off on the big night of American sports. For example, we will have the 60-second commercial from Coors Light, a beer that for one day is going to change the name of its brand to ‘Monday Light’ because of the iconic game. Sloths represent how ‘hard’ a Monday is after the Super Bowl. We also have the ad from Häagen-Dazs, entitled ‘Not So Fast, Not So Furious’, with Vin Diesel reprising his role as Toretto and Michelle Rodriguez as Letty Ortiz.
But if there is one commercial to take away, it is the one starring David Beckham, paid for by Belgian brewer Stella Artois (60 seconds). The former footballer meets his parents in a pub and they tell him that they have called him to tell him that he has a twin brother who also lives in the United States. This one is played by actor Matt Damon. Becks travels to meet him and they have some buffalo wings, as well as checking out the good touch of ‘the other David’ with the American football. The commercial is directed by Ben Affleck and only a short version of it has been allowed to be seen. According to Damon, a regular in the beer brand’s commercials, “the Beckham brothers are here to stay” and we will get to know what their relationship is like
