Oscar De La Hoya has responded to claims that he had implanted abs after posting a picture on social media.
The 51-year-old retired boxer posted a picture to commemorate girlfriend Holly Sonders’ birthday recently where he had chiseled abs despite his age.
That led to a storm on social media, with many claiming it was extremely unlikely that De La Hoya had such great abs at the age of 51, 15 years after he hung up his gloves.
But he has now cleared up the situation, affirming that they are indeed his abs but also admitting to surgery that helped him keep them popping.
“They are real. They are my abs. What I did was I got a little bit of help from a doctor,” he told Ariel Helwani.
He added: “I’ve always had abs. I’ve worked out every day, so my body fat is low. But when you do the sculpting of the abs, they pop out like there’s no tomorrow.”
The procedure sucks up fat from the abs and prevents it from regrowing. He continued: “I can gain 200lbs and I’ll still have my abs because once that fat is removed, it cannot grow back in that particular area. It’s going to grow somewhere else, behind my f***ing shoulder or something,”
Explaining the procedure
Many will suggest the procedure is one of pure vanity, but De La Hoya says there is still hard work to be done to maintain his abs.

Talking to Shannon Sharpe on his podcast, Club Shay Shay, he explained: “My abs are already there, so they just etch them in between so they pop out more, and that’s all it is. Now it’s up to me to keep these abs because I must work out and eat right. But they are mine, and it’s real.
“I want to look good and feel good. I have my partner, Holly, who is probably the most beautiful, sex***t woman alive ever, and I have to keep up. But I want to look good for her.”
