Leandro de Niro Rodriguez, son of Drena de Niro and grandson of one of the greatest actors in the history of cinema, Robert de Niro, died at the age of 19 in strange circumstances.
A friend of the deceased young man found his lifeless body in a flat, after he had been missing for a few days.
The cause of death was not known at the time, but when the young man’s death became official, his mother took to social media to issue a statement and a message to her son filled with equal parts love and sadness.
“I don’t know how to live without you.” Drena de Niro stated.
“I don’t know how to live without you, but I will try to carry on and spread the love and light you made me feel being your mum.
“You were so loved and cherished and I wish love alone could have saved you. I am so sorry my boy. Rest in peace and eternal paradise my dear boy.”
For his part, the actor admitted to being “deeply distraught” and also issued a statement, which was released by People magazine.
“We ask that we be given privacy to mourn the loss of Leo,” De Niro’s statement read.
Drena accused drug-dealer of killing her son
At first, the causes of Leandro de Niro Rodriguez’s death were not revealed, but after many rumors, media such as the Daily Mail pointed out that there was a “white substance similar to gunpowder” next to his body.
Another media outlet, TMZ, which specializes in celebrity news and gossip, claims that the young man died of an overdose, because there were traces of drugs and paraffin next to his body.
In the last few days, his mother sparked controversy on social networks with a message that she supposedly deleted, according to Quien.
“To the person who sold Leo the fentanyl-laced drugs that took him from us: I hope that every day you think of me and my family. You killed him,” Drena wrote.
