Queen Camilla delivered a heartfelt speech at a Holocaust Memorial reception hosted by The Anne Frank Trust at the London Hilton, Park Lane.
Addressing over 600 attendees, including notable figures such as Sir Stephen Fry,Emma Barnett, and Rob Rinder, the Queen reaffirmed her commitment to remembering Holocaust atrocities and combatting antisemitism.
Queen Camilla paid tribute to Anne Frank, who tragically died in Bergen-Belsen at age 15, 80 years ago. Reflecting on Anne‘s enduring impact, she said.
“Her story demonstrates that even the quietest, loneliest voice in the wilderness can change the world. That is the true power of words.”
As the royal patron of The Anne Frank Trust, Camilla praised the organization’s work, which last year reached over 126,000 children across the UK. She lauded their efforts to combine Holocaust history with education on discrimination and youth empowerment, describing the charity as vital in today’s society.
A Warning against complacency
Quoting Holocaust survivor Marian Turski, who warned against indifference, Camilla urged vigilance in the face of rising hate.
“Don’t be complacent,” she stated.
“Because if you become complacent, before you know it, some kind of Auschwitz will suddenly appear from nowhere and befall you and your descendants.”
The Queen called on attendees to take action.
“Let’s unite in our commitment to ensure that the words ‘Never Forget’ chart a path toward a more tolerant future for all.”
After her speech, the Queen met Holocaust survivors, including Maia Tribich MBE, who was imprisoned in Bergen-Belsen at the same time as Anne Frank. Camilla also watched a presentation by young people from partner schools of The Anne Frank Trust, emphasizing the charity’s mission to educate future generations.
The Queen concluded her appearance by lighting the first remembrance candle, joined on stage by survivors and those impacted by hate crimes. Tim Robertson, CEO of The Anne Frank Trust, emphasized the critical importance of Holocaust education in the wake of rising antisemitism.
The reception, held ahead of Holocaust Memorial Day on January 27, served as a poignant reminder of the enduring need for awareness and education. Camilla‘s speech received high praise for its emotional resonance and timely message, reaffirming the royal family’s role in promoting tolerance and understanding.
