However, even legends must eventually face the reality of time, and in 2019, Vonn officially retired from competitive skiing, bringing an end to a remarkable career.

Injuries have played a part

A moment of panic caused her to miss a gate, leading to a devastating crash that reinjured her knees, which had been surgically repaired just a year earlier.
Despite this, Vonn has shown remarkable resilience. In a calm and collected Instagram post, she acknowledged the need for a break to recover and prepare for the upcoming World Championships.
Reflecting on the previous weeks of racing, she shared that while mistakes were made, she was still “extremely happy with my skiing” and remained excited for what lay ahead.
Vonn’s career has been a story of overcoming adversity. Throughout her nearly two decades of competition, she battled a string of injuries, including torn ACLs, muscle sprains, and abdominal issues. Yet, she always found a way to push through, proving time and time again that she was not just a talented skier but an incredibly tough competitor.

Now, as Vonn takes a brief pause to recharge, she is looking ahead to the World Championships in February. Her message to fans and fellow skiers was clear.
“Now it’s time for a break so I can recharge and be ready for the World Championships in a few days!”
