There’s no denying that we’re all afraid of plane crashes. It’s like your life is on the line.
In 2008, Bilnk-182 drummer Travis Barker experienced one of those moments he doesn’t want to remember.
The plane incident occurred in South Carolina as the private plane he was traveling on with other celebrities was returning to Van Nuys, California.
Travis Barker already had a bad feeling about the whole thing, because prior to the flight he had asked his band and record label not to include illustrations of airplanes with his name on the Take Off Your Pants and Jacket icon they created in 2001, what a coincidence for everything he was experiencing that day.
Things were going pretty well on the trip, but from one moment to the next, everything literally exploded. As they took off in South Carolina, a tire hit an embankment, causing a huge fire on the plane. Travis would suffer massive burns, as would the people on that private plane.
The torture he had to go through in his recovery process
In an interview with Bert Kreischer,Travis detailed what this painful process was like, which he still remembers with uncertainty, as he suffered burns on 70% of his body and spent more than 11 weeks in the hospital with more than 30 surgeries, which is crazy.
Barker spent months in specialized burn units undergoing surgeries on his burns, which he described as “like using a cheese grater” to gently scrape and reposition his skin, in a process that must have been emotionally and physically devastating.
But Travis doesn’t see it as a negative now… because he’s currently enjoying life in a relationship with a Kardashian:
“I was in a plane crash that burned 70% of my body while I was the drummer for the most popular pop-punk band at the time, and I was forced to get sober while I was in and out of burn centers for six months, and now I’m married to a Kardashian,” the Blink-182 drummer said in the talk.
A tremendous story of overcoming a difficult moment, one of those that can ruin your life, Travis fortunately overcame it all and although it was a horrific story that almost ended his life, he looks to the future with great pride.
