It looks as though Olivia Dunne’s NIL value could be damaged if the United States Supreme Court chooses to effectively ban TikTok, the controversial Chinese-owned social media app that has been linked to spying and political manipulation.
Despite apps such as Facebook having the ability to access immense amounts of user data and previously even losing control of 87 million users’ data in the 2018 Cambridge Analytica scandal, the government has decided TikTok is too much of a problem to go unnoticed.
Congress could ban the ByteDance-owned app on fears it could harvest user data and hand it straight over to the USA’s main economic rival, China.

ByteDance will be forced to close down the website in the USA by no later than January 19, or to sell it, if nine justices rule in favor of the ban. TikTok opposes it on the grounds of violating free speech laws.
The ban will work by compelling Apple and Google to remove the app from their stores, which analysts believe will essentially kill it over time. It will not be forbidden to still use the app, however.
How will it impact Dunne?
This could spell disaster for the likes of Dunne, who alongside her immense talent within gymnastics also boasts an exceptional following on TikTok with over eight million fans on the website.
A notable portion of her net worth and value through the Name, Image, Likeness scheme comes because of her marketing power online, which sees brands keen to sign the 22-year-old Tiger up to sell their products.
If she loses TikTok then she loses eight million potential customers. This could see her slide further down the NIL rankings after already dropping out of the top four behind Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter and Arch Manning.
Dunne was valued at $4.2m in December and ranked second, but has since fallen all the way down to seventh in her final year of college eligibility. Manning now leads overall with $6.6m ahead of Sanders’ entry to the 2025 NFL Draft.
