One of the most frequently asked questions throughout the year has undoubtedly been what will be the release date of Nintendo Switch 2. Likewise, on more than a few occasions, there has been talk about its presentation, revealing possible dates and deadlines for it. Unfortunately, so far we have had nothing out of this world. For the moment, the only thing the Japanese company has confirmed is that they are working on a new device.
Curiously, it was not made through a big announcement. It was actually corroborated by a report that was later followed by a tweet from the company. In it, Furukawa, the company’s president, said that “Nintendo Switch software will also be playable on the Nintendo Switch successor.” That’s all we’ve had so far if we leave aside the rumors, leaks and so on. Recently, a new one has emerged, and this one is quite strong, as it tells us what the release window for Nintendo Switch 2 will be.
Nintendo Switch 2 already has a release window
According to Nintenduo, “Nintendo plans to launch Nintendo Switch in the summer of 2025”. Thus, as they have reported, the console would arrive in our lives during the summer period. In addition, they say that “at least six development studios that are working on titles for the successor to Switch have confirmed that the console has a release window between June and early July“.
And while it may seem like a strange date, it’s not the first time Nintendo has done something similar. For example, the NS lite version was launched in September 2019. It was introduced in July of the same year with a video on its YouTube channel. For its part, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition was also released in September. In other words, Nintendo is not afraid to release its consoles in the summer.
Of course, it hasn’t always done this, and the Nintendo Switch itself launched in March 2017. What I mean by this is that, although it is rare for a console to use the summer as a launch window, it is not a unique or unprecedented circumstance in the industry. All that being said, we can infer that the timeframe given is not 100% accurate, and that there could be noticeable differences as its expected launch approaches.
What can we expect from NS2?
So far, Nintendo Switch 2 has generated many questions. At the moment, there is not too much data, although we know that it will be backwards compatible. In addition, different information suggests that we will not have stock problems, not even on day one, since the Japanese company is working hard on this issue. The rest are rumors, although there are some that not only make a lot of sense, but would be the most normal thing in the world.
So when we talk about what we can expect from Nintendo Switch 2, it’s backwards compatibility and more power. If the big N is going to release a new console, it’s because they want to increase its capabilities, this being one of the weak points of the platform. There has been a lot of talk about its features, but the only ‘certain’ thing is that it will be a console with more capacity. In addition, analysed sales, data and data to determine what its launch games would be, although this is not official; these are the conclusions I came to myself.
