It’s a rare event in tennis to reach the final of an ATP event and for it to be without either Novak Djokovic or Carlos Alcaraz, but that’s what we have at the Miami Open. The absence of the world one and two offers a good chance for others to win some serious prize money, but how much will the winner get?

The finalists are Jannik Sinner (Italian, world number three) and Grigor Dimitrov (Bulgarian, world number nine) after Sinner eliminated Alcaraz and Dimitrov defeated Alex Zverev in the semifinals.

In the second Masters 1000 of the year and there have been $17.6m put in as total prize money across the competition with the eventual winner taking home $1.1m as a nice early pay day for the year.

But that is a long way off what the winners of the Grand Slams earn. For example, when Alcaraz beat Djokovic in that famous Wimbledon final in 2023, the Spanish champion took home $2.9m.

When is Jannik Sinner vs Grigor Dimitrov?

Sinner currently has 12 ATP titles to his name and is gunning for a 13th, although it won’t ever compare to the success he tasted at the start of 2024. The 22-year-old won his first Grand Slam in his first appearance in a final as he beat Daniil Medvedev in a five-set classic.

Throughout the entire contest, it was closely fought and the largest winning margin was 6-3 for a set in a three hour and 44 minute long marathon between the pair. Sinner, at 22, became the youngest Australian Open men’s champion since Djokovic in 2008.

Meanwhile, Dimitrov, at the age of 32, is gunning for his 10th ATP Tour singles title and his second Masters 1000 title after winning the 2017 Cincinnati Open. He lost the Paris Masters in 2023 to Djokovic and looks to avenge that loss.

The final for the Miami Masters will take place on Sunday, April 31 and will begin at no earlier than 15:00 ET (12:00 PT) and it can be watched via the Tennis Channel for American audiences.
