Kai Havertz has made the relatively short trip across London from Chelsea to Arsenal, being officially announced as a Gunners player after the two clubs agreed a fee.
Arsenal will pay their city rivals 70 million euros for the 24-year-old plus a potential further 5m euros in variables.
The former Bayer Leverkusen forward becomes Mikel Arteta‘s first signing ahead of the 2023/24 season.
The German arrived at Stamford Bridge in 2020 for 80m euros and leaves with a record of 32 goals and 15 assists in 139 games.
Havertz also helped the Blues win the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup in 2021.
The Germany international played a big part in those successes, scoring the only goal of the Champions League final against Manchester City. He also scored in the Club World Cup final against Palmeiras.
All that said, however, more was expected of Havertz at Chelsea after the fanfare surrounding his arrival and the whopping fee the club paid for him.
One issue has perhaps been the struggle to find his best position, as he has been used as a false nine, centre-forward, second striker and even on the wing.
Arsenal close in on Rice deal
It seems that Arsenal‘s ambitious summer plans are just getting started, with another major deal set to be finalised soon.
Reports in England suggest that the Gunners have agreed a fee of over 120m euros with West Ham for midfielder Declan Rice.
The bidding war for the England international has seen Manchester City step away from the table – reportedly turning their attention to Celta Vigo’s Gabri Veiga.
If completed, this transfer will make Rice the most expensive English player of all time, surpassing the fee Real Madrid have agreed for Jude Bellingham, although with add-ons the former Dortmund player could take the lead again.
