‘Fast and Furious 11’ is set to be released in Spring 2025 but it might be a new-look blockbuster for the iconic franchise as some of its biggest names such as The Rock, Vin Diesel and Jason Momoa may not return.
‘Fast X’ performed modestly at the worldwide box office with only a gross of $714.6 million from a budget of $340 million and so the franchise sees ‘Fast & Furious 11’ as an opportunity to close the story in a better, less disappointing way.
We will have to wait until April 4, 2025 to see how the story ends but early rumors point to several changes, particularly the cast. The InSneider blog claims a major change is being sought to return to the saga’s origins.
Those that made it famous in 2001 as street racing movies and far from the current blockbuster featuring space travel and impossible maneuvers and incredibly big explosions and action.
The plot would be simpler, moving away from the exuberance of the recent film, notably of ‘Fast X’s’ implausible and over-the-top scenes. A return to the roots for the franchise.
New villain, Diesel’s farewell and the role of Dwayne Johnson
However, it’s not clear how the stories of Dominic Toretto (Diesel) and his team with the antagonist Dante Reyes (Momoa), will continue. In fact, the film ended with Toretto and his son Brian in the middle of a myriad of explosives in a dam, and Dante preparing his revenge.
Furthermore, Jim Schneider claims a source says Momoa would not reprise his role, although it is yet to be confirmed due to the fact that his plot was left unfinished in the preceding movies.
His narrative place would be taken by Alan Ritchson, who in the earlier film played double agent Aimes and helps Reyes take down Toretto’s friends.
Although they have announced for some time that this eleventh installment would serve to say goodbye to the saga, it could continue, but without Vin Diesel. ‘The Guardians of the Galaxy’ actor could say goodbye to the most important character in the movies and give way to other stories.
Another actor who isn’t likely to continue would be Dwayne Johnson, who once again appeared in the saga at the end of Fast X, threatened by Dante Reyes. But contrary to what was said to be a return for the eleventh part, his return would be in a new solo film of his character Hobbs.
