As they prepare to take on the talented Philadelphia Eagles in The Big Game, they will have all the momentum in the world. And it’s not just from this season; they’ve been carrying over that momentum over a six-year stretch of greatness. And they have the numbers to back up their claim as arguably the best dynasty in the sport’s history.
Chiefs have already made history, but they’re going for more in New Orleans
With their clinching of a spot in this year’s Super Bowl, it marked the first time in NFL history that a team reached the final game of the postseason in five of six seasons. They are also the first repeat champion to make it back to the Super Bowl the following season, which means that if they beat the Eagles, they will secure a three-peat for the first time ever.
As if those records aren’t impressive enough, the Chiefs have also redefined how to win games in the NFL.
While everyone looks for ways to blow teams out of the water, the Chiefs play within their limitations and grind out victories. That’s evidenced by Kansas City winning their 17th straight one-score game.
The Chiefs’ most common opponent in the playoffs during this run has been the Bills. On Sunday, Mahomes faced Josh Allen for a fourth time in the postseason. Once again, the Chiefs came out on top, and once again they set a record.
The Bills will lament this loss all offseason, but the Chiefs can proudly say they “own” the Bills, at least in the playoffs. Now, they will look to eliminate the Eagles in the Super Bowl, which they already did two years ago.
