For the first time in history, the NCAA implemented a new playoff-style format to determine the new collegiate champion for the 2024-25 season, with the participation of 12 teams, which make up the College Football Playoff (CFP), which concludes this January 20 with the championship game.
The seeding, defined by vote, was divided into two parts. Oregon (1), Georgia (2), Boise State (3) and Arizona State (4), Texas (5), Penn State (6), Notre Dame (7), Ohio State (8), Tennessee (9), Indiana (10), SMU (11) and Clemson (12), faced each other in knockout matches that began on December 20, and will conclude this Monday, January 20, 2025.

After three exciting rounds of college football postseason, No. 6 Ohio State is set to take on No. 5 Notre Dame in the 2025 CFP National Championship. The Buckeyes leads the all-time series againts the Fighting Irish, 6-2. Both of Notre Dame’s wins came before World War II. The other six meetings occurred in the last 30 years. Last season, Ohio State defeated the Irish, 17-14, in South Bend.

This venue already hosted the national championship in 2018, when Alabama defeated Georgia in overtime. It is a state-of-the-art stadium, opened in 2017 and is home to the Atlanta Falcons (NFL) and Atlanta United FC (MLS). It also hosted the Super Bowl in 2019.
