Tom Cruise has reportedly stopped sending Brooke Shields a Christmas cake after a 10-year run of the festive tradition. Shields, an actress and model, was part of the lucky few who received the bundt cake from Cruise every Christmas, which she says was worth around $126.
Shields said she was “very happy” with the coconut cake she received every year, but was unable to say why the tradition had come to an end, admitting “I don’t know what happened.”
Shields, who has a well-documented past feud with Cruise, says the recent end of the Christmas cake tradition has nothing to do with their disagreements in the past. In 2005, Cruise caused a stir when he referred to Shields as “irresponsible” for using antidepressants after the birth of her daughter.
Shields responded by calling Cruise’s comments “a disservice to mothers everywhere,” and the two had a public falling out. However, they later reconciled and remained friends.
Shields has a great respect for Cruise
Shields, who was invited to Cruise‘s wedding to Katie Holmes in 2006 and even had a joint birthday party for her daughter with Suri, says she still speaks highly of Cruise. Shields even laughed off a recent Christmas card from Cruise, which reportedly cut out his ex-wife and daughter.
“It was from them and Suri [at first], so it was the three of them, and then soon it was no Suri and no Katie and just Tom,” she explained. “Then it went from just Tom for a while, but not every holiday. And then the cake stopped.”
Cruise’s relationship with his daughter Suri has been the subject of much speculation in recent years, with reports suggesting that he has little to no contact with the teenager. Cruise and Holmes divorced in 2012, and a source recently told Page Six that the actor “no longer has a relationship” with their daughter.
Meanwhile, Holmes has been reflecting on how time flies, saying in a recent interview that it feels “wild” that Suri is almost as old as she was when she began filming Dawson’s Creek.
Overall, it seems that while some traditions may come to an end, the bond between old friends can still remain. Even with the recent end of the Christmas cake tradition, Shields and Cruise seem to have a strong and lasting friendship that can weather any storm.
