It has been eight years since the fans of ‘The Hunger Games’ said goodbye to the saga after the movie release of ‘Mockingjay – Part 2’, with any loose ends of the dystopian plot laid out by Suzanne Collins in her books were closed.
It was also the last time Jennifer Lawrence got into the suit of Katniss Everdeen although her return is more than possible, as she herself has admitted. Her comments date back to the tour she did to promote ‘Bad Blood’, her latest comedy.
She admitted that she has a fond memory of the character and would not hesitate to return, “If Katniss could ever come back into my life, I would do it 100%”.
But not everything depends on her, she accepts that the team of ‘The Hunger Games’ must want it to happen.
The series proved to be highly successful and earned $2.9bn at the box office from a combined budget of $495m. The films have an 84%, 90%, 69% and 70% approval rating from Rotten Tomatoes, whilst CinemaScore gave all films an A- or higher.
It also gave Lawrence her big break, alongside the X-Men series, with the former making her the highest-grossing action heroine in Hollywood.
The future of ‘The Hunger Games’ depends on Suzanne Collins
Nina Jacobson, producer of the saga, has expressed to Yahoo Entertainment that Katniss’ story is complete and that everything depends on what Collins thinks. If the author is willing to add more plots to what Katniss’s past and after her victory over the Capitol.
“If Suzanne has something to say, then she will write a book about it,” Jacobson said during the tour of ‘The Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’, the prequel about the original that will see the light on Friday, November 18, 2023.
“If for some reason Suzanne had some thematic idea that made sense to tell another Katniss story, I’d be all for it,” Jacobson added. “And then I’m sure Jen would be all for it. But it really all stems from the theme and the idea, and Suzanne.”
