In a recent interview with Gary Lineker, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that he would one day like to manage Spain's national team.
Now into his second season at the club, Manchester City are flying high at the top of the Premier League table. They remain unbeaten, after they passed their toughest test of the season so far by winning away at Chelsea.
While silverware is surely a must for this season, Guardiola is already being asked about his next step in his managerial career. Speaking with Gary Lineker on the BBC's The Premier League Show, Guardiola was asked about his future with Manchester City and how long he plans to be at the club.
"I am so happy to be here," he replied. And like almost any manager in football, Guardiola stated that it may not necessarily be up to him as to how long he stays: "It will depend on the success that you have. At big clubs like Manchester City if you do not win, you cannot stay.”
But when that time comes, international football is where Guardiola could one day see himself managing. What team exactly?
"Spain, I think," he told Gary Lineker. “I would like to be a manager in the World Cup, the European Cup [European Championships]. I would like to feel it.”
Guardiola was capped 47 times for Spain during his playing career, scoring five goals.
For now, attention remains firmly fixed on Manchester City, who will aim for Premier League and Champions League success this season. They face Stoke City and Napoli in the week following the international break, where they will aim to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.
