Roman Reigns has the support of his fans as the WWE star seems to have noticeably lost weight in the SummerSlam event in his battle against cancer as the wrestling community calls for critics to keep their tongues held.

Reigns, who previously played football for the Minnesota Vikings and Jacksonville Jaguars, went on to become a six-time world champion in the WWE as well as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion becoming one of the biggest names in the sport.

But the 39-year-old has been battling against chronic myeloid leukaemia since 2007 and undergoes regular chemotherapy, which can cause an impact of weight loss in people suffering with the disease and going through treatment.

The controversy kicked up when Dave Meltzer on commentary pointed out the loss of weight by adding he looked a lot thinner and he was unsure of whether it was a good or a bad thing, which wrestling fans were not having any of.

One user posted to X.com, formerly Twitter, “First of all this is body shaming. Whether roman got thin or not is none of his business and he should shut up. 2nd of all Roman is dealing with a life threatening illness. So seriously again shut up.”

A second said, “You know a lot of people forget that roman is still on oral chemotherapy,, still this man is on the top I think that says a lot.”

A third added, “I think he looks fantastic.if his weight goes up-and-down a few pounds It’s because one his daily medication and 2.He’s dealing with a very hard time in his personal life.”

What is chronic myeloid leukaemia?

Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a type of cancer that affects the bone marrow and blood. It occurs when the bone marrow produces too many abnormal white blood cells, which can crowd out healthy cells.

CML can lead to fatigue, anemia, infections, and bleeding and without treatment, CML can progress to a more aggressive phase, significantly affecting quality of life and potentially becoming life-threatening. Early diagnosis improves outcomes.
