Jake Paul‘s biggest win of the week wasn’t over Iron Mike Tyson but was through his good heart and charitable endeavors as the YouTuber-turned-boxer met a young child with cancer on November 14, ahead of the clash at the AT&T Stadium.
The 27-year-old comfortably defeated Tyson by unanimous decision and for large parts of the fight appeared to be carrying the ex-undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, on a night criticized for controversial calls and Netflix’s poor service.
But a good moment came on Thursday when El Gallo met a seven-year-old named Owen Obey, who is fighting bone cancer as he welcomed the ailed youngster to his pre-fight camp in Dallas, Texas.
The meeting was set up by a fellow influencer named Samuel Weidenhofer, as per TMZ, who passed on Owen’s story to Paul and set the ball in motion for the meet-and-greet ahead of his successful fight.
The youngster got to hang out in the dressing room ahead of the weigh in before they took some selfies and Owen passed on a bracelet to the ex-streamer, who wore it to his weigh-in when he was eventually slapped by Tyson.
Chelsi Obey, his mother, said Owen described it as, “the best day of his life. And, he was so excited.”
Paul also welcomed the family to the fight at the home of the Dallas Cowboys as he emerged victorious via unanimous decision after eight sets of two-minute rounds against someone almost 30 years older than him.
Whilst Katie Taylor also defended her undisputed lightweight titles against Amanda Serrano in a controversial unanimous decision verdict, and Mario Barrios retained his welterweight title against Abel Ramos via split decision draw.
Paul calls out Canelo
After stopping Tyson and earning an estimated $40m, it was a good night for Paul as he limited Iron Mike to just 18 punches throughout the contest and dominated affairs by intelligently using his jab.
Buoyed by the night and his 11th professional victory, he wasted no time in calling out Mexico’s Canelo Alvarez.
“He knows he wants a payday so he knows where the money is at,” Paul said of Canelo, who reigns as the WBA (Super), WBC, WBO, and The Ring super-middleweight champion.
