Davies and Kimmich new additions – The most valuable starting XI in the world

At the beginning of the year Transfermarkt last put together the most valuable starting XI on the planet. Since then there has been plenty of change, the coronavirus crisis, the market value cut, the football restart and a prolonged transfer window. Now the transfer window has been closed in most leagues and the market values have also been adjusted. The most valuable XI—taking into considerations main and secondary positions—has a value of €1.19 billion, €200 million less than the team put together in last. But unlike January, this time there are two Bundesliga players in the selection.
Since winning the treble, Alphonso Davies and Joshua Kimmich from Bayern Munich have become the most valuable left-back and defensive midfielder respectively. Davies took Andrew Robertson’s position and Kimmich dethroned N’Golo Kanté. The French midfielder was worth €100 million in January but including the last Premier League update has dropped to €70 million. Kanté has struggled to replicate the world class performances from two years ago, when he guided France to a World Cup triumph.

With Robertson and Kanté gone, the dominance of the Premier League is also diminished. But title holders Liverpool still have the most players in Sadio Mané, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk. Forwards Kylian Mbappé, who remains the most valuable player on the planet with a market value of €180 million and Neymar lead the line up front. Jan Oblak from Atlético Madrid, in the meantime, is the only player playing in LaLiga—Real Madrid and Barcelona do not play a role at all in this edition. Long-time leader Lionel Messi, who missed out on a spot for the first time in January saw his market value drop to €100 million due to his age.

With a market value of €60 million, Cristiano Ronaldo has not played a role in some time—even though he remains the most valuable player in his age group. But in Matthijs de Ligt, one of Ronaldo’s Juventus teammates made it into the most valuable XI on the planet. The Dutchman is one of several center-backs with a market value of €70 million but among them he is the youngest.
