In 1995, George Weah sealed a move to AC Milan and quickly became a Rossoneri icon. The older Weah won Serie A twice and scored 46 goals in 114 games for the club between 1995 and 2000.
Now, his son Timothy is trying to forge his own path through soccer — which, coincidentally, will also include a stint in Italy. The younger Weah is close to moving to Juventus and reinforcing the 36-time league champions ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Well-traveled Weah looking forward to new challenge
At 23 years old, Weah already has a track record of playing for elite European clubs. He joined Paris Saint-Germain‘s academy in 2014 and made five appearances for their first team before joining Scottish giants Celtic on a six-month loan in 2019.
Weah then signed for Lille on a five-year contract — and he helped the team upend PSG for a shock Ligue 1 title in 2021. Although he struggled through a scoreless season in 2022/23, Weah’s Lille career will end with six goals from 89 league appearances.
It certainly seems like Weah is embracing a new opportunity in Turin, as he all but confirmed his imminent move Monday on Instagram.
No Champions League for Weah next season
Weah will have to contend without Champions League football once he completes his Serie A switch — although he may not be missing it for long.
in Juventus will not be playing in Europe’s top competition next year after Italian authorities docked 10 points from the Bianconeri‘s final total. Juve would have finished fourth in Serie A last season had the club not been found liable for capital gains violations.
However, Juve figure to be in the title mix again next season — and they figure to be serious contenders in the Conference League, which they will enter in the playoff round.
