Eric trains at Kataka Arts Gymnastics, a local club offering hope to over 60 underprivileged children. Many of these young athletes face extreme poverty, but gymnastics gives them a sense of purpose and a vision for a brighter future.
“Gymnastics has been my dream since childhood,” Eric shares, echoing the sentiment of many at Kataka. Coach Lugolobi Faizo, a self-taught instructor, motivates his students to strive for excellence, believing in their potential to achieve greatness.
For these children, gymnastics represents more than just a sport – it’s a lifeline.
“They love gymnastics, but for some of them, when they finish training, they don’t have anything to eat,” says Johnson Kato, another coach at the club. Despite these challenges, the dream of performing on a global stage keeps their spirits high.

Biles‘ influence extends far beyond her athletic achievements. During the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, she made headlines by stepping back from several events to prioritize her mental health.
