Dallas Cowboys tickets have long been synonymous with sky-high prices, consistently ranking among the most expensive in U.S. sports. Earlier this year, a study by Gaming Today confirmed their dominance, reporting an average ticket price of $399.50-57.6% higher than the NFL average of $253.47.
For marquee games, such as their annual Thanksgiving matchup, premium seats near the field historically ranged between $1,000 and $1,300, while upper-level tickets hovered around $250. As Brett Collson of Gaming Today noted, “NFL games dominate the costliest experiences in U.S. sports, and the Cowboys clearly lead the pack.”
But this season has turned the Cowboys’ ticket market upside down. Ahead of their Thanksgiving game against the struggling New York Giants, prices have plummeted. Tickets near the 50-yard line are now listed as low as $53 on SeatGeek, with upper-level seats available for just $25.
By comparison, tickets for the Texas A&M vs. Texas Longhorns rivalry game-taking place the following day-are selling for nearly 20 times as much, further highlighting the Cowboys’ dramatic fall from premium status.
Cowboys’ disappointing season results in slashed ticket prices
Fans on social media have been quick to mock the situation. One user wrote, “They should pay fans to go to that game.” Another joked, “Imagine skipping Thanksgiving dinner to watch Tommy DeVito vs. Trey Lance.” The Cowboys’ disappointing 3-7 record and the Giants’ abysmal 2-8 season have drained excitement from what is traditionally a must-see holiday game.
Even within AT&T Stadium, fan fatigue is impossible to ignore. During the Cowboys’ recent Monday Night Football loss to the Houston Texans, large sections of empty seats and a noticeable influx of Texans fans underscored the growing dissatisfaction.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones tried to spin it positively, saying, “It’s not uncommon to see our fans sell tickets for particular games. A lot of times, that’s done way before the season starts.” However, the declining attendance and cheap resale prices paint a different picture.
For a team that has built its brand on being America’s Team, this season’s struggles have clearly shaken its once-loyal fanbase. With Thanksgiving game tickets now cheaper than the cost of a turkey, the Cowboys are facing a stark reality: fans are unwilling to pay premium prices for mediocrity. If things don’t turn around soon, this season may go down as one of the most forgettable in recent memory.
