The Golden State Warriors’ 22-year-old combo-forward Jonathan Kuminga has missed the last 12 games for the franchise as he continues to work his way back to the court.
The former No. 7 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft had been contributing 16.8 points and 5.0 rebounds, 0.9 steals and 0.6 bocks in 32 appearances for the team, all new career-best figures.
Unfortunately, Kuminga suffered a sprain to his right ankle during a game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Jan. 4, keeping him out of action since.
Recent updates have given the team a positive sign that he’s improving during his rehabilitation process, though he will likely be held out of action for a short while longer.
“Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga, who suffered a sprained right ankle on January 4 vs. Memphis and has missed the last (12) games, was recently re-evaluated,” Warriors PR shared via Twitter/X on Monday afternoon.
“The re-evaluation indicated that Kuminga is making good progress. He is expected to begin light on-court individual workouts in the next week. He will be re-evaluated again in two (2) weeks.”
While it appears that the athletic forward with an improving offensive skillset is doing well on his road to recovery, he could be expected to miss the Warriors’ next handful of games.
Despite his progress, reports show that he could very well be out of commission for the next seven contests, with Golden State’s Feb. 12 matchup against the Dallas Mavericks being eyed as his quickest possible opportunity to return.
