The “You Can’t See Me” will have another opportunity to seek his 18th World Championship at Wrestlemania 41 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Cena was the last man eliminated from the Rumble match at the hands of Jey Uso, who will be competing for a world championship at the big event.
Cena‘s next opportunity will come on March 1 when Elimination Chamber takes place in Toronto, Canada. At the post-Royal Rumble press conference, John put himself in the match without asking anyone, true to his style of thinking about what’s best for business.
Minutes later, Triple H, WWE’s Chief Content Officer, confirmed that Cena did not have to qualify and that he was the first of six in the match looking for another opportunity to make it to Wrestlemania.
CM Punk joked about it the next day on a Good Guy/Bad Guy podcast with UFC legends Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen.
“Cena’s already there, he’s going to Budapest to shoot a movie and he’s disappeared and I have to qualify. Hopefully he makes it so I can kick his ass, it could be my last chance. Just because he is John they gave him his place there, well”. Punk commented, laughing and joking with the hosts.
Farewell tour disappoints fans
Fans were not happy with the news that John Cena went to Hungary to shoot scenes for the movie “Matchbox“.
Well, John Cena only made two appearances in 2025, at the debut of RAW on Netflix and at the Royal Rumble, everyone was hoping to see him a lot more, but it seems that the situation will not change.
According to reports from PWInsider, Cena will not return to WWE programming until Elimination Chamber, his regularity in that month is still in doubt, meaning he will participate in the PLE and it is not yet known what other appearance would follow.
With Wrestlemania 41 so close, almost a month and a half away, it shouldn’t be strange to see some appearances by John Cena before the big event, but it is noticeable that in these first 2 months of the year of his farewell he has been very silent.
That is why professional wrestling fans have expressed their criticism of how Cena is saying goodbye to WWE on X.
“Let’s hope it gets more serious from the chamber on… or it will be a little disappointing”.
“I know when he said it was going to be his last year, he mentioned that he was going to be everywhere?”
“We were sold on the idea that he would be there for many weeks. The reality is that he has made two appearances in over a month. The retirement tour needs a present Cena telling stories”.
“Cena might as well retire now. He has a new love. No point in risking injury now”.
“Very disappointing. He promised us a full time run, couldn’t he turn down roles until after this year? Doesn’t he have enough money already?”
These were the criticisms of John Cena on social media for his lack of appearances in his last year as a wrestler. The truth is that there are still many months left until the end of 2025, so he could surprise us with something, but the fans are already losing patience.
