Kellen Moore is only 36 but has been a hot NFL head coaching candidate for more than five years. The Eagles’ offensive coordinator is on his third team in that capacity since 2019, this time helping running back Saquon Barkley rushing for a league-high 2,005 yards
The former successful and prolific winning starting quarterback at Boise State had a short stint as an undrafted backup QB, but used that time in Detroit and Dallas to develop an acumen for play-calling. Moore once gave the Cowboys insurance for Tony Romo before collaborating with Dak Prescott for four seasons before moving to Justin Herbert’s Chargers and Jalen Hurts’ Eagles in the past two.
Moore might have been declared too young to promote and hire during the previous few coaching cycles, but that’s not the case anymore, getting more heated interest from multiple times while still on a playoff run with Philadelphia. Here’s looking at his six available options, from best to worst.

Ranking Kellen Moore’s best coaching fits in 2025
1. Dallas Cowboys
Moore can go home again to his most notable former team. This would much like Jerry Jones tapping into the smarts of former backup QB Jason Garrett as his long-time head coach. Moore is an extension of that era which saw inconsistent success but some notable flashes. The obvious advantage is the established strong rapport with and respect from Prescott, the most important Cowboy. If Jones goes in this direction, he would give full trust in Moore and catch up with the times in having a hot rising star vs. a big-name Super Bowl-winning retread.
2. Jacksonville Jaguars
Doug Pederson and Press Taylor failed the offense as the Jaguars didn’t develop well beyond the first year with them and Trevor Lawrence. Anyone Jones might want, Shad Khan should, too. Moore can provide a big boost to Lawrence and other established skill position players. He will also land someone to fix the defense, perhaps even tapping into their recent past system under Dan Quinn.
3. New Orleans Saints
The Saints were once led well by a top undersized quarterback, Drew Brees. Moore might have had a more promising career path as an NFL QB had he not been 6-0, 197 pounds. Moore is a strong target of this team, right there with Dallas and Jacksonville. The issue wouldn’t be with Moore in this situation, regardless if Derek Carr remains the QB, but rather the team’s brutal salary cap situation and massive injury-related offensive uncertainty.
4. Chicago Bears
Don’t sleep on Moore ending up here to work with second-year first-overall QB Caleb Williams. He can get a lot more out of their weapons and be committed to be improving their offensive line and finding a better complementary defense.
5. Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders would help the Washington native go back west with a chance to play for a team with a strong Tom Brady influence. But the lack of QB certainty would be a tough situation in which to put Moore.
6. New York Jets
The J-e-t-s are a m-e-s-s again and who knows what’s ahead for Aaron Rodgers and their post-Robert Saleh defensive direction. That makes Moore in New York being an absolute misfit for a young coach trying to succeed early.
