Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans are proving their love for wide receiver Chris Godwin goes beyond the football field. Following his recent ankle injury, Godwin’s charity, the Team Godwin Foundation, has seen a surge in donations, raising over $15,000.
The outpouring of support has been a powerful reminder of how much the star player means to the community. During Week 7, the Bucs not only lost to the Baltimore Ravens but also faced a gut-wrenching moment when Godwin was carted off the field with a dislocated left ankle.
Surgery was completed last week, and despite being in recovery, Godwin stunned everyone by attending his foundation’s annual event on October 28th, arriving on a leg scooter with his ankle resting comfortably.
Rather than frustration over the injury, Godwin was deeply moved by the fans’ generosity. “People didn’t have to do that. They didn’t have to take their hard-earned money and donate to our cause. They could’ve just said, ‘Get well soon.’ It would’ve meant the same. But this is very special,” Godwin shared, overwhelmed by the community’s response.

Godwin is tireless
The wide receiver’s presence at the event, despite his injury, uplifted spirits, showing fans that his passion for giving back remains unwavering. Since 2019, Godwin and his wife, Mariah DelPercio, have worked tirelessly to grow the Team Godwin Foundation, which raises funds for local dog rescue centers and shelters.
The couple, proud parents of two rescue dogs named Ghost and Ziggy, launched the foundation after learning firsthand about the challenges faced by animal shelters.
Their journey into philanthropy began in 2017 when Mariah volunteered at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay. Her experience opened their eyes to the dire needs of local shelters, prompting them to take action.
