And while the Oscars are the most glamorous event in cinema, the idea of having a multi-million dollar party in the midst of this tragedy may seem a little out of place. However, despite the destruction, the Academy has decided to go ahead with the 97th edition of the Oscars.
Bill Kramer, the chief executive of the Academy, announced in a statement that after consulting with ABC and other key parties, the ceremony will go ahead as planned on March 2.
In addition, this year’s gala will include special moments to recognize the brave people who have been fighting the fires
“We believe we must continue to support our film community and use our global platform to highlight these crucial moments,” Kramer said.
Of course, the organisers will continue to monitor the fire situation, but for now the ceremony will not be stopped. As Kramer said, the spirit of Los Angeles and its film industry is one of resilience, and the Oscars not only celebrate cinema, but also the strength of the community in the face of adversity.
The nominations will be revealed by Rachel Sennott and Bowen Yang, who will do so live from the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California.
This year, music is set to be a major theme, with two musicals, Wicked and Emilia Perez, as well as the biopic Bob Dylan, A Complete Unknown, expected to be strong contenders in the Best Picture category.
