The bad news is that after the national championship game between Ohio State and Notre Dame, there are only three major football games between now and August. The good news is that those three games are theoretically the best games of the season, the conference championships and Super Bowl LIX on February 9 in New Orleans. In the NFC game, future Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels will become the sixth rookie quarterback to play in a conference championship game, the first since Brock Purdy did it in 2022 and lost to an almost identical Eagles team. For the Philadelphia EaglesJalen Hurts is looking to break a curse, as of the last 18 quarterbacks who lost their Super Bowl debut as a starter have not returned. Hurts lost 38-35 in the Super Bowl two years ago against the Chiefs.

In addition to Hurts, the quarterbacks on that list include, in order from most recently, Brock Purdy, Joe Burrow, Jimmy Garoppolo, and Jared Goff among the remaining active ones. In the AFC it looks tighter with the Bills playing the Chiefs in the playoffs for the fourth time in the last five years, the previous three times Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs have been the victors. Obviously, Josh Allen wants to get to his first Super Bowl and the Bills’ first appearance since 1993 when they lost four straight Super Bowls (1990-1993). Allen knows what it’s like to beat Mahomes but not in the playoffs. In the regular season, Allen and the Bills have a 4-1 record against Mahomes, including a 30-21 win in Week 11 of this season, but in the playoffs it is Mahomes who has the advantage with 3 wins and zero losses, making it clear that they win when it matters most and this is what caused a discussion between fans of both teams for this ESPN post.

The parity in games between the Bills and Chiefs is so amazing that in their last 10 meetings, including the playoffs, both teams have won five games, scored 251 points and allowed 251 points, pretty even, right? But I would definitely prefer a million times to have the Chiefs win over the Bills, not to take away from the fact that a win is a win, but they were in the regular season while the Chiefs wins are to eliminate them from contention and the fact that it has happened three times shows a dominance by Mahomes over Allen, but Josh knows there is always a first time and he would be the hero of many if he eliminated the Chiefs before they get to the Super Bowl. The Chiefs have become the “villains” of the league because they know how to win games, they have a record of 22-3 in the last 25 games dating back to last season and as you know they are looking for the first three-peat in historysomething that even Tom Brady did not achieve although he had the same opportunity in 2005.
If the Chiefs win, which I believe will happen, it would undeniably solidify Mahomes’ dominance over Allen. On the other hand, if the opposite occurs, I don’t think any NFC team could stop Allen in the Super Bowl because if Josh gets there, he won’t lose. For now, let’s hope the officiating doesn’t affect the outcome of Sunday’s game, as it’s expected to be as thrilling as the 2020 Divisional Round matchup, which featured three touchdowns and a field goal in the final two minutes of the game! That game was undoubtedly an instant classic.
