Quentin Tarantino is one of today’s most acclaimed directors, and one of the best in the history of cinema. His filmography includes nine films over his thirty-year career, and his latest film, the tenth, will begin shot at the end of this year. Despite rumors that his latest work was going to be a continuation of the ‘Kill Bill’ saga, it has emerged that the name of his last film is going to be a film dedicated to cinema.
Therefore, Uma Thurman will never again wear that iconic yellow suit, as the last film will be ‘The Movie Critic’. In fact, Quentin Tarantino has now spoken to explain why he is only willing to make ten films, citing the passage of time and how he takes the utmost care in the production of his works as the reasons.
“Directors don’t get better as they get older. Usually, the worst films in their filmography are the last four, at the end of their career,” the director began.
Tarantino: “I’ve given it everything I’ve got”
“I don’t have a reason that I want to say out loud that I’m going to win any arguments in the court of public opinion or the supreme court or anything like that. At the same time, working for 30 years making the films that I’ve made is not as much as other people, but it’s a long career. It’s a very long career. And I’ve given it everything I’ve got,” Tarantino added.
Tarantino‘s filmography is as follows: 1992’s ‘Reservoir Dogs’, 1994’s ‘Pulp Fiction’, 1997’s ‘Jackie Brown’, 2003 and 2004’s ‘Kill Bill 1 and 2’, 2007’s ‘Death Proof’, 2009’s ‘Inglourious Basterds’, 2012’s ‘Django Unchained’, 2015’s ‘The Hateful Eight’, 2015’s ‘Once Upon a Time in….Hollywood’ from 2019 and ‘The Movie Critic’ from 2024.
Tarantino: “One bad movie f***s three good ones”
‘The Movie Critic’ tells the story of a movie critic in 1970s Los Angeles: “It’s based on a guy who actually lived, but was never really famous and used to write movie reviews for porn magazines,” Tarantino explained to Deadline.
“I am my filmography and one bad movie f***s three good ones. I don’t want that bad, out-of-place comedy in my filmography, the movie that makes people think I still think I’m the same guy from 20 years ago. When directors become obsolete it’s not pretty.”
