Former England fast bowler, Steve Harmison expressed his disappointment with England’s current coach, Brendon McCullum rigid and stubborn approach to games.

The 47-year-old compared ‘Bazball’ to Tottenham Hotspur under manager Ange Postecoglou whose goes ahead with fixed plans during games and tends to struggle when things go awry.

Steve Harmison expresses disappointment in McCullum’s England
Talking to the TalkSport YouTube channel, Steve Harmison analysed England’s results and felt some some players out of the side could do a better job if given a chance.
“Brendon McCullum thinks this is England’s best team. Some will argue that Sam Curran and Will Jacks should be in it. Some people look at cricket differently from Rob Key and Brendon McCullum. I think they will be judged by the numbers and series they have played against New Zealand and Pakistan where they struggled where the pitches turned,” he said.

“You’ve got a big summer coming up in red-ball cricket against India and Australia. A three-match ODI series against India now which is very very important, leading to the Champions Trophy. So, they are going to be judged based on what happens in the Champions Trophy, against India and Australia in Test matches,” Harmison added.

Why did Steve Harmison compare Brendon McCullum’s England to Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs?
He also added how England has struggled in slightly tougher conditions as they lack in planning for a Plan B like Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs who currently sit 14th in the Premier League with only 8 wins and 27 points in 24 matches.
He referred to how the football manager continues to play with a certain plan irrespective of the conditions [injuries and player skills] available to him and loses miserably on some days when it does not work out well.

“In T20Is [vs India], lot of India’s big guns have moved aside and they are looking to the next T20 competitions and giving experience to their younger players. Their younger players performed in their backyard but when England came under pressure to think about and find a way of scoring runs when it’s difficult in red-ball as well as in white-ball cricket, that’s where England fell short.

He pointed out how England cannot score runs when they are not able to hit the ball out of the park,
“If you can’t hit a six or a four, we get out spectacularly. It’s like watching Tottenham Hotspur, I love Ange [Postecoglu], he is one of my favorite Australians. I think he is out looking a little bit like what McCullum and Ben Stokes are but they have got no real Plan B if they can’t hit a six or four or big runs, that either looks absolutely brilliant or they fall off a cliff like in the T20 series,” he concluded.
