New Orleans is rolling out security measures that feel more like preparations for a global summit than a football game. The New Orleans Police Department, in partnership with the Secret Service and federal agencies, is deploying every tool in the book to keep things locked down.
One of the biggest reasons for this security blitz? The tragic New Year’s Day truck attack that took 14 lives on Bourbon Street. That incident, combined with the presence of a sitting U.S. president at the game, has pushed officials to go all-in on protective measures. Over 300 National Guard troops and 200 Louisiana State Police officers will be on duty, ensuring that every corner of the city is monitored.

The security doesn’t stop at boots on the ground. The Superdome is now equipped with cutting-edge artificial intelligence surveillance, tracking everything from crowd movements to online chatter. Dataminr, an AI security firm, has been hired to sift through social media, the dark web, and even traffic cameras for real-time threat detection. “The quicker you understand what’s happening, the faster you can respond,” said Robert Crowley, Dataminr’s chief security officer according to the Associated Press.
No-fly zone: The Super Bowl is a drone-free fortress
And if you were thinking about bringing a drone to capture some viral-worthy aerial shots-forget about it. The Federal Aviation Administration has declared the entire Super Bowl zone a “No Drone Zone,” with hefty fines and even criminal charges for violations. From 1:30 p.m. CST on game day, all drone activity within 1.5 nautical miles of the stadium is strictly prohibited, expanding to a 30-mile radius during the game.
The NFL’s security chief, Cathy Lanier, is confident in the plan. “I’m confident the safest place this weekend will be under the security umbrella we have in place around the Superdome,” she stated at the pre-game press conference. Fans heading to the game will experience strict bag checks, facial recognition scans, and police K9 units trained to detect explosives.
