One decade ago, there was only one mega-fight that every single boxing fan wanted to see: Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao.
The two settled their differences and finally delivered the show in May of 2015, with Mayweather defeating Pacquiao by unanimous decision. Many believed that Mayweather avoided Pacquiao for years until the time was right on Mayweather’s side, but Money May came out on top in the end.
Oscar De La Hoya frowns upon Mayweather-Pacquiao 2
A few weeks ago, Pacquiao revealed that a rematch is coming in 2024. Fans aren’t as excited for this one as the original, and neither is Oscar De La Hoya.
De La Hoya calls the exhibition match a “money grab“. Although the Golden Boy believes the fight will bring more eyeballs to the sport, which ultimately helps him as a promoter, he doesn’t “really agree with it” as a former fighter.
De La Hoya had his own battles with both fighters, although both fights came very late in his career. He faced Mayweather when he was 34 years old and Pacquiao when he was 35. He lost both bouts.
There isn’t an official date for the potential fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao, and there hasn’t been any confirmation of the fight from Mayweather.
