With the best tennis players in the circuit gathering in New York for the US Open, the last Grand Slam of the season is here.
A favorite for many, we return to hard courts after a season alternating between clay and grass, along with the Paris Olympic Games. From August 26 to September 8, the best players from the ATP and WTA will convene in New York City.
With just a few weeks of preparation, the American tour has seen the Masters 1000 events in Canada and Cincinnati with Novak Djokovic absent and Carlos Alcaraz having played only one match before the US Open.
Jannik Sinner has been a standout during the preparation for the last major of the year. After reaching the quarterfinals of the Canada Masters 1000, the Italian won the title in Cincinnati, arriving at the US Open with maximum match play.
Thus, Sinner, who has been in the spotlight recently after his double positive test in March, arrives as the top seed and world number one, regardless of what happens in the final Grand Slam of the year.

On the women’s side, Coco Gauff will defend her title in front of her home crowd, despite coming into the event in her worst form of the season, having lost in her debut in Cincinnati and dropping to third in the rankings.
Carlos Alcaraz enters the last Grand Slam of the year, where he is defending his semifinal finish from last season, with only one hard-court match under his belt after losing in his Cincinnati opener.
The Murcian, a champion at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, has put the American Masters 1000 behind him.
Despite concerns about his limited preparation, it’s worth noting that Alcaraz arrived at the French Open nursing an elbow injury that kept him out of Monte Carlo and Rome.
Additionally, he returned to the All England Club with just two matches on grass after an early exit in Queen’s.
US Open 2024 Dates and Times
The main draw of the tournament will take place from Monday, August 26, to Sunday, September 8.
All sessions during the two weeks will start at 11:00 AM local time on both the Arthur Ashe Stadium and the other courts.
Additionally, both the Arthur Ashe and Louis Armstrong stadiums will host evening sessions starting at 7:00 PM.
During the second week, matches will begin later on Arthur Ashe Stadium to accommodate the final rounds of both the men’s and women’s singles draws.
- First round: Monday, August 26, and Tuesday, August 27
- Second round: Wednesday, August 28, and Thursday, August 29
- Third round: Friday, August 30, and Saturday, August 31
- Round of 16: Sunday, September 1, and Monday, September 2
- Quarterfinals: Tuesday, September 3, and Wednesday, September 4

- Men’s semifinals: Friday, September 6
- Women’s final: Saturday, September 7

Who are the favorite to win this year’s US Open?
On BetMGM, Carlos Alcaraz, who won in 2022 but lost in the semifinals last year, is the men’s favorite with +200 odds. Meanwhile, Aryna Sabalenka, who has never won the U.S. Open but was the runner-up last year, is the betting favorite with +275 odds on the women’s side.
For both sides, though, the top favorites include a handful of the usual suspects. Novak Djokovic (+225) and Jannik Sinner (+300) follow Alcaraz on the men’s side; Iga Swiatek (+350) and Coco Gauff (+600) follow Sabalenka on the women’s side.
