The complaint alleges that the abuse occurred during a 2018 summer internship at the Ignite Life Center in Gainesville, Florida, which is affiliated with the Riveras’ church. The minor, referred to as Jane Doe, was allegedly abused by an older female camper, identified as MG.
The lawsuit claims that instead of taking action to stop the abuse, the Riveras isolated and intimidated Jane Doe to remain silent to protect the church’s reputation. The allegations extend to an incident at the Riveras’ home in Rye, New York, where Jane Doe was reportedly abused again by MG during a barbecue.

Additionally, the lawsuit claims that Jane Doe was sexually abused by the son of an associate pastor at Refuge of Hope in 2021. The Riveras have not publicly commented on the allegations, and the lawsuit seeks unspecified damages.
