The Milwaukee Bucks are certainly not at the point where they would consider trading Giannis Antetokounmpo. They signaled this by trading Khris Middleton for Kyle Kuzma to strengthen their playoff hopes.
However, the clock is ticking for them. If their title hopes fall short again, the pressure would be on the Bucks to capitalize on Antetokounmpo’s value while they still can.
If Milwaukee goes that route, YouTuber SROS proposed a trade that would send Antetokounmpo to the Houston Rockets, in which the following would happen.
Bucks get: Dillon Brooks, Jabari Smith Jr., Amen Thompson, 2027 Rockets-Nets pick swap, 2029 Suns or Mavericks first-round pick, 2031 Rockets first-round pick
Rockets get: Antetokounmpo
The Rockets have been one of the best teams in the league this year, having had their best season since the James Harden days. Houston is the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference at 32-18, and much of it is because their young talent has come into their own.
Thompson, in particular, has really risen through the ranks this year. He’s turned himself into one of the NBA’s most promising wings without question. He would be an excellent centerpiece in a deal featuring Antetokounmpo.
Acquiring Antetokounmpo would signal that teams across the league should take their title aspirations very seriously. Houston’s draft capital and youngsters mentioned above are strong enough to entice Milwaukee to make a deal.
However, the Bucks aren’t in a place where Antetkounmpo is on the table. For now, at least. Their moves have signaled that an Antetokounmpo trade won’t happen for some time. If it does, Houston may be their first call.
Knowing what the two-time MVP has done for them, it may sound ridiculous that Milwaukee would even consider this, but anything is possible after the Luka Doncic trade.
