The entertainment world mourns the passing of Andre Braugher. The star of hit series like Brooklyn Nine-Nine and ‘Homicide: Life On The Street’ was 61 years-old. The the two-time Emmy-winning actor’s passing on Monday caused an outpour of grief and condolences from fans across social media on Tuesday, when the news was released by his publicist.
Braugher’s portrayal on FOX and (later) NBC’s hit series Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013-2021) was deemed as iconic by fans and critics. The portrayal of the extremely monotone personality of the chief of police from the series was vital to the success of the show that also featured Andy Samberg and Terry Crews.
Andre Braugher: what caused the death of the actor at 61?
According to his publicist Jennifer Allen, Braugher passed away after dealing with a “brief illness”. Details as to which sickness caused the former Juilliard alumn’s passing are yet to be released.

Braugher’s big break in Hollywood came after his role in 1989’s ‘Glory’. The film about an all-Black army regiment during the the Civil War also featured Morgan Freeman and Denzel Washington, with the former even winning an Academy Award.
Afterwards, his TV career continued growing with roles in ‘City of Angels’, ‘Poseidon’, ‘Frequency’, ‘The Mist’, ‘Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer’, ‘Salt’ and ‘The Gambler’.
Andre Braugher’s untimely passing also took what was going to be his next project with him, the Netflix show Residence , which was goin to begin filming early next year.
The talented actor is survived by his wife and actor Ami Brabson, as well as three children.

Former NFL player, actor and TV star Terry Crews was one of Braugher’s first co-stars to react to the tragic passing of the actor. Captain Raymond Holt, played by Braugher, and Sargeant Terry Crews’ on-screen chemistry was hailed as incredible by fans of Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
