arsenal vs everton 2017 18 Arsenal vs. Everton final score, result, updates, stats, lineups as Man City win Premier League title

Arsenal beat Everton but it proved to not be enough as Man City lifted the Premier League title with a win over West Ham."> Arsenal vs. Everton final score, result, updates, stats, lineups as Man City win Premier League title | Sporting News United Kingdom <link rel="stylesheet" href="https://static-nw-production.sportingnews.com/f5ee0a22da8c0835e9d2c12ea3cbbeb682f08f45-static/old-stylesheet-in-tailwind.css

Arsenal have been beaten to the Premier League title by Manchester City for a second straight season as Pep Guardiola’s side overcame West Ham United 3-1 on the final day.

Mikel Arteta needed City to drop points for his side to have a chance at winning their first top-flight title in 20 years but that agonising wait will be extended for at least another season.

The Toffees took a surprise lead in the first half through Idrissa Gana Gueye as his freekick took a cruel deflection past David Raya.

But the Gunners immediately responded and their goal came from an unlikely source as Takehiro Tomiyasu tucked home Martin Odegaard’s cutback cross.

The hopes of a hotly-contested title race on the final day were diminished after just 78 seconds when Phil Foden fired a bullet past Alphonse Areola.

North London then fell silent when Foden doubled City’s lead with a neat finish after an exquisite ball from Jeremy Doku.

There was, however, hope for the Emirates faithful as Mohammed Kudus’s overhead kick pulled one back for the Hammers on the stroke of halftime.

But the break allowed Guardiola to restore confidence in his side and they went and made it 3-1 through their ever-reliable Rodri.

Arteta’s side pushed and pressed Everton in the second half but Sean Dyche’s side showed great resilience and determination to frustrate the home side.

Controversially though, Arsenal took the lead late in the game as Kai Havertz finally found the back of the net.

Gabriel Jesus won the ball on the halfway line with what appeared to be his bicep. There was a VAR check but they stuck with the on field refereee’s decision.

90th minute: Five minutes have been added on.

88th minute: GOAL!! Havertz finally puts Arsenal ahead.

84th minute: Smith Rowe hits the post! Is it just going to be one of those days for Arsenal…

76th minute: We’ve now got just 15 minutes left to play. Arsenal still struggling to find the back of the net as their season is somewhat petering out.

69th minute: Timber and Smith Rowe come on for White and Partey.

62nd minute: The Emirates falls silent again as City add a third and restore their two-goal lead against West Ham.

58th minute: Gabriel is forced off through injury after that tussle with Doucoure.

54th minute: Doucoure and Gabriel clash on the far side and the Everton man receives a yellow card.

46th minute: We are back underway after the break.

HT: That’s all from the first half and while Arsenal will be encouraged that West Ham have a goal back, they still need to win this game for it to matter! A huge 45 minutes still to come…

45th minute: A fake rumour of West Ham equalising has reached the Arsenal fans and the stadium is going wild. Little do they know, it’s still 2-1 to City.

44th minute: The Emirates smells a title race! West Ham pull one back and there is hope again in North London.

43rd minute: GOAL! Arsenal bounce back. Tomiyasu tucks home from a cutback cross from Odegaard.

40th minute: GOAL! Everton lead! Gueye’s free-kick takes a wicked deflection and gives Raya no chance.

35th minute: Martinelli is now receiving treatment after a collision with Tarkowski but it was a cracking challenge from the Everton defender.

27th minute: The Gunners are still struggling to break down Everton’s last line of defence. This time Havertz dribbles into the box and takes an age to shoot which is inevitably blocked by Tarkowski.

22nd minute: Title race over? Foden doubles City’s lead vs West Ham.

20th minute: Gueye is down injured for Everton and there’s a break in play.

16th minute: Martinelli goes on a fantastic run down the right and has a strike at Pickford but he makes another good save.

12th minute: Rice’s shot is scuffed and Pickford saves with ease.

8th minute: Arsenal as expected are dominating possession and since City’s goal, the atmosphere has dampened.

4th minute: This isn’t the news Arsenal were hoping for as Phil Foden fires City into the lead vs West Ham.

1st minute: We’re underway for the final time this season!

5 mins before kickoff: The Emirates is ready! Kickoff is next…

15 mins before kickoff: With Saka out, the bookies have drastically changed their odds.

MORE: Arsenal vs Everton betting preview

30 mins before kickoff: We’re nearing ever closer to kickoff and both sets of fans are getting into the Emirates now as the players begin their warm-ups.

45 mins before kickoff: A look back at the previous fixture where Everton were beaten by Arsenal 1-0. The Toffees haven’t been beaten in both Premier League meetings with the Gunners in a campaign since 2017/18.

1 hour before kickoff: Team news is in and Bukayo Saka is not even in the squad due to a slight muscle injury!

Starting lineups:

Arsenal XI (4-3-3, right to left): Raya (GK) — White, Saliba, Gabriel, Tomiyasu — Odegaard, Partey, Rice — Martinelli, Havertz, Trossard.

Everton XI (4-4-1-1, right to left): Pickford (GK) — Coleman, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Young — Garner, Onana, Gueye, McNeil — Doucoure; Calvert-Lewin.

1 hour 30 mins before kickoff: A little bit about Everton and why they may struggle this afternoon. Sean Dyche’s men are winless in their last 10 league away games. It’s their longest run without an away win under the same manager since a run of 12 under Ronald Koeman between February and October 2017.

2 hours before kickoff: It’s worth saying that whatever happens this afternoon, Arsenal fans should be immensely proud of their side.

  • Arsenal’s 86 points so far is already their third highest in a single Premier League campaign, after their title-winning campaigns in 2001/02 (87) and 2003/04 (90).
  • The Gunners’ 89 goals this season is also their most in a top-flight campaign since 1963/64 (90)

2 hours 30 mins before kickoff: It may be out of their hands but Arsenal are not giving up yet. They must do their job first and worry about City’s result later.

Keep believing. pic.twitter.com/nMjIfruo4C
