Lionel Messi could return to Camp Nou and face world football’s biggest stars, including Cristiano Ronaldo, in a match to celebrate Barcelona‘s 125th anniversary.
The wish of the Blaugrana fans, the club and Messi himself could materialise in a spectacular game, ideal to pay tribute to him and be the perfect setting for the Argentine star’s farewell to the club he left in 2021, without a farewell befitting his greatness.
After leaving Barcelona, the Argentine went to Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent, and when he left the French club there were big rumours that he would return to the Catalans, but in the end he decided to go his own way in the MLS with Inter Miami.
When would Messi’s farewell game at Barcelona take place and who would be involved?
According to Goal and FootballTransfers, the “greatest tribute game of all time” would take place on 29 November 2024, which will coincide with Barcelona’s 125th anniversary.
For the special occasion, it is envisaged that both active and retired football greats will be invited. Among the names being bandied about are Ronaldinho, David Villa, Rivaldo, Romario, Cesc Fabregas, Luis Enrique and former Brazil international Ronaldo.
Several Real Madrid legends will also be invited to take part in the match, with Cristiano Ronaldo expected to agree to take part if he is released from his duties at Saudi league side Al-Nassr.
In addition, other former Merengues of note such as Sergio Ramos, Zinedine Zidane, Gareth Bale, and even David Beckham himself, Messi’s current boss at Inter Miami, would be called into the game.
As if that wasn’t enough quality, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Steven Gerrard, John Terry, Diego Simeone, Frank Lampard and Fernando Torres are also expected to be invited.
The ticket cost for the match that will mark Messi’s return to the Camp Nou accompanied by other footballing greats is expected to be 250 euros (around $272).
